.. my daughter just texted me a link about the mantis shrimp- it has 16 colour receptive rods - humans have 3.
They see the world very differently.
colour study- 1
I have long been interested in colour- from its psychological impact explored in the Luscher test and Oliver Sacks investigations, to our biological ablity to differentiate between colours and tones. (Ishihara and Farnsworth Munsell)
To this end I have started to work on a new series of pictures exploring colour/ light.
This one is interpreting Michael Berry's investigations into waves and in particular his image 'In the cusp'.
The idea is to make a physical representation, in 3D, of this computer generated image. Made from fabric and pins and using spectrum silk satin and silk organza; It intends to explore the physicality of the light/ colour- using a medium which is so tangible in contrast with the qualities of light. The finished piece will hopefully make us dwell on the nature of both light and substance.
